The Friends of the Library is a 501(c)3 organization that supports the Hornell Public Library in all of their efforts. The group promotes the library, fundraisers, and gives other support than needed. The group all also funded the digitization of the library. They are the primary fundraising arm of the library and supports everything the library does involving the community.
Marly McGowan was recognized by the Friends of the Hornell Public Library May 8th for being selected the Hornell High School Valedictorian for 2018.
Marly, a page at the Hornell Library, was given a proclamation for her valedictorian selection. She also received a check for $100 to put toward her schooling. Marly carried a 100.4 weighted and a 98% unweighted average. She will attend the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio in the fall.
The Friends of the Library is always looking for new members and volunteers. Some of the tasks we need help include, but are not limited to the following:
Make food (sandwiches, soups, etc.) for bazaar and other events
Donate bread, bags, or other food for bazaar
Help set up for the bazaar, dinner theater and other events
Distribute flyers and posters
Volunteers to take and sell tickets for various events
Be a lead person for the telephone tree
Assist with library tasks as directed by staff
Make posters and flyers
Share events and fundraising ideas
Communicate with the Evening Tribune
We are currently looking for two more active volunteers to become Board Members of Friends of the Public Library
